Spain’s top business schools
Spain is home to some of the best business schools in Europe. Business school rankings provide excellent evidence for this claim. Despite not always being relevant for each student, these scores give a clear indication of the quality of education within a country. When comparing schools, you should use several sources, as many of these rankings lack objectivity or transparency.
Rank in Spain | Rank in Europe | Business School |
---|---|---|
1 | 4 | Iese Business School |
2 | 8 | ESCP Business School |
3 | 12 | Esade Business School |
4 | 12 | IE Business School |

Schools accredited by the Spanish government
An external authority typically accredits top business schools. There are three accreditations considered to be the most reputable: AACSB, AMBA, and EFMD/EQUIS. Any of these certifications represent the highest level of education.
It is called the “triple crown” to have all three accreditations. The following Business Management in Spanish schools have been triple-accredited by AACSB, AMBA, and EFMD/EQUIS:
- ESADE Business School – Ramon Llull University
- IE Business School – Instituto de Empresa
- TBS Education
While some institutions award degrees through partners, they have accredited selves. EU Business School, a school with a campus in Barcelona, is an example of this. Though degrees are awarded through partner universities, students study at business schools. As well as overseeing course curricula, these partners ensure that all students are taught to a high standard.
You should also be cautious of business schools that claim to have “agreements” with accreditation bodies when they are not accredited. Schools can become members of associations like AACSB, but that does not imply that their programs are high-quality education.
Partnership claims are made to lure students away from the absence of accreditation, and while there is no guarantee that this is a scam in every case, you should check out school websites before applying to one of these schools.
Tuition fees
Depending on the institution you choose, the cost of a business school in Spain varies significantly. Comparatively, highly competitive programs are more affordable than those offered by other top-ranked schools in Europe or the UK. In addition, Spain has relatively lower living costs than most other countries with comparably ranked universities. As a result, it can be a great opportunity to improve your career prospects while broadening your network in a country that you may find hard to leave after you graduate!
Well-ranked business schools typically charge the following tuition fees:
- ca. 11,000 to 13,000 euros per year for a Bachelor’s degree;
- ca. 14,000 to 17,000 euros for a Master’s degree;
- ca. 17,000 to 21,000 euros for an MBA.
ESADE or IE, on the other hand, charge substantial fees despite their ranking as elite institutions. Several Spanish universities also offer top-tier education at a lower cost, such as AUB, which offers business studies at a similar level to top business schools.
Spain’s business school admission requirements
To be considered for admission, most Business Management in Spanish schools require either a GMAT or a GRE. Analytical, writing, quantitative, reading, and verbal skills are tested in these tests. Generally, the required score for higher-ranked schools depends on the program and school in question.
Additionally, you will need to provide proof of your English proficiency. Business schools usually require IELTS or TOEFL tests, but others may be accepted depending on the university. You’re in the clear for most business schools and universities if you have an IELTS score of 7.0 or better. If you have a 6.0 or 6.5 GPA, some schools may also accept you. To prepare for your English test, we strongly recommend you check the specific requirements of the school you’re interested in as early as possible.
What’s the language needed – English or Spanish?
A Business school in Spain does not require you to speak Spanish. The vast majority of universities are filled with ex-pats and international students from different countries with whom you can socialize in English or in whatever other language(s) you speak.
However, while many Spanish locals can speak English well, it is not spoken by everyone. Spanish proficiency in English ranked 26th in Europe in the EF English Proficiency Index, with a static trend and “average proficiency.”.
The majority of Business degree programs will be taught in English, but certain business schools or study programs may make Spanish mandatory for some courses. Be sure to check the curriculum before applying. However, don’t worry; these courses usually occur toward the end of your degree, alongside language classes. Take advantage of it!
In addition to “Castilian” Spanish, other languages are spoken within Spain, such as Catalan, Basque, and Galician. Despite this, these languages are spoken only in a few places, and Spanish is always spoken too.
Having some knowledge of Spanish will be a big plus if you plan to stay in Spain after graduation, which is often the case after having tasted the country.
Spanish is a beautiful language that has many uses as well as being one of the easiest to learn. In no time, you’ll be ordering tapas and taking siestas!
Getting a visa to work in Spain after graduation
To start a career in Spain, it is best to study there. Business schools provide you with opportunities to meet prospective employers at career fairs and events, and many programs offer optional or even mandatory internships so you can gain practical experience and build your network.
Non-EU citizens require a visa to visit Spain, and visa requirements vary from country to country. A local qualification, however, will go a long way toward helping you find a job or company to support your visa in this country, which has relatively open immigration laws.
